Tip of the Month

Google recently (8/21/2026) changed they way they parse JSON structured data (used in Schema markup code) enforcing a more strict requirement which could break parsing of some schema.

We check for this regularly but our tip of the month is to audit your schema for strict compliance and check they are still valid in Google Search Console and the Schema testing tool.

There is more discussion of this on SEO Round Table covered by Barry Schwartz.

Whats New in Search

There has been much made in the media about Claude adding a watermark to their content.

If you have been working with STOLBER Digital for more than a minute you will know that this is something we have actively guided on.

Claude watermark

Watermarks or fingerprints are not new to LLMs and GenAI technology. All of the models have a statistical fingerprint that can be determined.

This is just one of the reasons why we have guided against using these outputs in your content.

ChatGPT citation of Reddit

There is a lot of talk about a ~ 88% drop in Reddit citations from ChatGPT – as what’s we put things in context for you – this means it’s changed from ~ 12% to ~ 3%.

It’s a big change for sure, but not quite as the headline figure suggests.

Great insights and research on this from Suganthan Mohanadasan here ->

New from the STOLBER Digital Research Team

This month we took a deep dive into why “it depends”.

You see in SEO you often hear the words “it depends” but it’s also often followed by silence.

It should be followed by specific guidance and explanations that give the contextual significance to your scenario.

We broke down some of the common “it depends” and what actually matters!

Our Top Tool of the Month

CROMojo is one of my favorite tools and something I use daily in my SEO activities. They have recently expanded their tool to include additional services. Originally URL Monitor, it was a great tool for monitoring Google indexing and getting bulk URLs indexed quickly – way more efficient and capable than using GSC for index requests.

They recently expanded their tool to allow for multiple features

This is not a paid promotion or part of any agreement, its just a tool I regularly use, genuinely like and would recommend.

What you should be focusing on

Consider brand, message and the word “official” in all channels.

In the modern search era, the line between SEO and good marketing is blurring.

One of the topics that has become more obvious recently is how frequently you are talking about your brand and also how the word “official” should matter in all your marketing channels.

Now, this does not mean go slap the word “official” on the end of everywhere your brand shows up. But it should give you pause to think about where you do show up in your own media and, more importantly, what shows up when you search for brand name official.

As always, let’s make sure YOU are the answer.
